WSL 06/07
Dear colleague
REVIEW OF COMPETITION: WORKSHOP
On 13 July we published our Consultation on market competition in the water and sewerage industries in England and Wales. To encourage a productive and comprehensive debate we held an initial workshop on 20 July.
We would like to invite you to attend a second workshop on 10 September to debate the issues further, once stakeholders have reviewed the issues raised in the consultation. The details are as follows:
Date Monday 10 September 2007
Time 10.30 am to 4.45 pm with registration at 10.00 am
Venue Austin Court, 80 Cambridge Street,
Birmingham, B1 2NP
The second workshop will allow those who could not attend the July workshop to give us their views on the issues we have raised for debate. It will also allow those who did attend the first workshop to continue in more detail some of the discussions we had, particularly in our breakout groups. We will circulate a note of the points raised in the breakout groups shortly. The timing of the workshop also gives the opportunity for ideas raised in discussions to be included in your consultation response.
The workshop will comprise mostly of focused breakout groups but will start with a brief overview of the issues set out in the July consultation and the review process going forwards. This will include any updates following on from our discussion forum held on 20 July. The breakout sessions will focus on issues such as changes to the current competitive regime (including the water supply licensing regime and insets), more fundamental changes to competition and the position of competition within the wider market framework. We will send you a full agenda which will give you the opportunity to choose your breakout sessions at the end of August.
Registration will begin at 10.00 am. Tea and coffee will be available on arrival and during the day. We will also provide a buffet lunch.
Please confirm your attendance to Bianca Mahoney (telephone 0121 625 1463 or email Bianca.Mahoney@Ofwat.gsi.gov.uk) by Friday 24 August 2007. Please indicate if you have any special dietary requirements. We want to include as many stakeholders as possible in this event, so at this stage we can only offer one place to each organisation. If you wish to bring more than one person, please tell Bianca when you confirm your attendance, and any spare places will be filled as equitably as possible.
Yours sincerely
Phillip Dixon
