Chris Mayock has been appointed as a branch director in the OFT's competition enforcement division. He will be responsible for conducting competition investigations in sectors which include the media, sport and information. He will take up his post on 1 November.
Chris was previously acting director of cartel investigations and then deputy director of competition and director of policy coordination at the OFT. Chris will succeed Becket McGrath who is joining Berwin Leighton Paisner as a partner in their EU and competition practice.
NOTES
1. The OFT is the main competition enforcement body in the UK. It enforces cartel and other anti-trust law (both under the Competition Act and acts against individuals under the Enterprise Act cartel offence) and it is the UK's first-stage merger-control authority.
2. Vincent Smith is Director of Competition Enforcement. The competition enforcement division is currently being reorganised to improve the direction of casework and to support better the delivery of results consistent with the OFT's overall enforcement strategy and priorities. As part of this reorganisation Simon Priddis and Ali Nikpay were recently appointed as the two Senior Directors in the OFT's Competition Enforcement Division (see press release 113/05).
